Can Drink Coffee But No Lattes

What Types Of Fluids Are Recommended On Medifast? Can I Drink Coffee Or Alcohol?

You are allowed to drink coffee and caffeinated on the Medifast but limit drinks to three per day. If you are in the mood for coffee flavor but don't want to drink actual coffee, Medifast also has meals that taste like the drink. These include cappuccinos, a Swiss mocha shake and coffee-flavored soft serve. However, coffee shop or other non-Medifast types of Lattes are not recommended because they are made with about 1/2 cup of milk, and milk (whether skim or not) adds too many additional carbohydrates to your diet while in weight loss phase.

If you really need to Lattes, we recommend limiting skim milk in your coffee to up to 2 tbsp. As an alternative, you can get a regular cup of coffee with up to 2 tbsp of low-fat or fat-free creamer, half & half, or skim milk. Some creams are considered condiments and not fat servings. These include 1 tbsp. of skim, 1%, 2% or whole milk and you can limit them to three per day.

You can also add sugar-free syrups to your coffee. Sugar-free syrups can add excitement and variety to your coffee, since they are available in numerous flavors. You can have 1 to 2 tbsp or one packet of artificial sweetener and 4 tbsp of sugar-free syrup each day limit. Once you transition to the Maintenance phase, you can include low fat dairy products. It worth noting that, the low-calorie level of Medifast may increase your sensitivity to caffeine, causing anxiety, shakiness or other symptoms.

Avoid All Alcoholic

You should avoid all alcoholic beverages while you are on Medifast. Alcohol provides unneeded calories and it is metabolized similar to a carbohydrate, it will decrease ketosis and slow your weight loss. Alcohol stimulates the appetite, and it also can deplete your body of needed water. Those who choose to drink alcohol tend to feel its effects at lower consumption levels, due to the lower calorie level of the Medifast 5 & 1 Plan.

As a general rule, Medifast recommends that you try to drink as much water as possible for good health and limit your intake of other non-caloric liquids when possible.
