Does Laser Hair Removal At-home Kits Safe? Can It Cause Scarring?
6 Guidelines For Safe Use

No matter what method of laser hair removal patients choose, professional or at-home, there's always risk involved in scar. However, overall, laser treatment at home by Tria and Silk'n are safe and can not cause scarring if the device is used properly. Tria and Silk'n are approved by FDA, this means that those devices had to reduce the power setting of its laser from that available in professional laser clinics, and the product has been well tested by the government. However, you must follow the guidelines for safe use.

6 Guidelines For Safe Use

1. Never Use On Skin Type V, VI

Never use at-home laser (IPL) hair removal devices on darker toned skins such as medium brown, dark brown, or black skins. Otherwise there are blistering, scarring and discoloration of the skin.

2. Use Caution On Face, Never Use Near Eyes

Home IPL's are not super powerful and IPL light is not coherent, so it is less likely to damage the eye than a powerful laser. None the less, do NOT use it on your eyebrows or near your eyes, the eyebrow zapping is strictly forbidden. This can be dangerous and cause infection or even blindness.

3. Not Overlap The Pulses

Make sure not to overlap the pulses on your skin. If you go over the same area that you already did with the laser, it can cause extreme pain and possible permanent scarring.

4. Out Of Direct Sunlight

We advise you to protect the skin against sun exposure for at least 1 month before and after using home laser system. Tanning is more susceptible to certain side effects including blistering and even a small amount of sun exposure after treatment can cause severe burns. And, of course, be sure to wear a hat and slather on an SPF of 30 or higher sunscreen if you absolutely have to go outside.

5. Refrain From Waxing, Tweezing, Bleaching, Depilatory Creams

Do not do this for 2-4 weeks before using home laser kits, shaving is OK. It also can not do this any time during treatments, including any time between treatments. The only other acceptable regimen is shaving after 24 - 48 hours.

6. Clean And Dry Your Skin Before Use

Apply some baby powder to the area to be treated to absorb excess moisture from the skin. Laser systems work more efficiently on skin that is moisture-free.
