How To Wax Your Face, Chin And Upper Lip At-home?

1. Wax Unwanted Facial Hair
2. Wax Upper Lip Or Chin

Face waxing is undoubtedly one of the most popular methods for removing unsightly facial hair. It is quick, cheap and convenient to do yourself at home. While other DIY methods such as depilatory creams and shaving leave you with stubble and the problem of regrowth within days if not hours, waxing will leave your face hair free for two to six weeks at a time. Not only that but hairs tend to grow in finer and over time you will find the growth of hair getting sparser.

Preparations Before Waxing

  1. Make sure that it does not apply the hot wax on any region that has traces of a recent wound, acne or skin rash.
  2. Never over-heat the wax as the application of the same during face waxing may result into skin burns.
  3. Never completely shave off the hair. Trim the hair upto a length of 1/4 inches so that they can be easily uprooted.
  4. Clean the facial region and eliminate moisture which has to be waxed. Lightly dust some talcum powder on the area.
  5. In case of face waxing, make sure that the hair on your scalp is properly tied so that they are not mistakenly pulled off.
  6. Ensure the wax is not too hot so that you do not burn yourself. Test on the back of your hand before putting the wax.

Waxing Facial Hair

  1. Carefully apply wax in an even manner, directed towards the direction of the hair growth. Make sure to thoroughly cover the hair on the skin, however, the quantity of the wax must not be too thick to be removed for face waxing.
  2. Cover the waxed region with the help of the strip, directed towards the orientation of the hair.
However, leave one of the ends of the strip so that it can be easily pulled and removed from the face.
  3. After a few seconds when the wax has adhered to the hair, pull the skin taut and taking the edge of the strip pull the wax off in one swift movement in the opposite direction to hair growth.

Do not pull the strip upwards as this can cause hair to break off and grow back stubbly, pull the strip as closely to the skin as possible. Apply immediate pressure to the area with your hand to minimise discomfort.
  4. You should treat each area just once in a single waxing session to avoid damaging the skin and bruising. If you have a few stray stubborn hairs you can remove these by plucking with tweezers.

Preparation post waxing

  1. It is important to apply oil immediately after waxing. This helps in removing all the remaining traces of wax on the face.
  2. Massaging skin with ice cubes or applying a soothing lotion and leave the redness to subside of its own accord.
  3. Do not apply a skin moisturizer.
  4. At least 12 hours before taking a shower.
  5. Once skin has calmed down after a day or two, help prevent ingrown hairs by using a gentle exfoliating product every day.

However It Doesn't Suit Everyone

Face waxing can be a painful experience to many, especially because face is one of the most sensitive areas of our body. Most people will get a temporary reaction to facial waxing which brings them out in small red spots and skin with be sore and red for a couple of hours after waxing. But if you have particularly sensitive delicate skin you may find that you come out in a rash which refuses to budge and your skin may even bleed, as face waxing not only pulls off the hair but the uppermost layer of the skin as well.

Also darker skinned women may suffer some discoloration from waxing and if you have been using retinols or acne preparations such as Accutane which thin the skin you should avoid waxing altogether until a month or so after you stop using them (check with a beauty therapist and your doctor if you're unsure). Always proceed cautiously, in any case, when you begin and try waxing a small area to start with.
